Production was split between the Crewe and Swindon works, where 198 and 53 examples were built, respectively. No. 92018 was brought new from Crewe to Wellingborough in October 1954 and retired from Carlisle Kingmoor in April 1967, after a wastefully short service of just 12 years and five months.
